The announcement comes not long after reports that the state government was using the Polygon Network to track the results of RT-PCR tests.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As computer graphics become more advanced, it becomes easier to forge paper-based documents. Naturally, this is a problem for a bureaucracy where most processes are still conducted with manual verification &#8211; which is often cursory at best.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solutions like the government\u2019s DigiLocker are a step in the right direction. However, these are built on a centralized architecture &#8211; meaning that there is a single point of failure, no matter how securely protected. The past few weeks have been filled with headlines of how black-hat hackers have exploited these weaknesses to gain access to user databases.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To counter the rise in forgeries, the Maharashtra State Board of Skill Development (MSBSD), along with LegitDoc, are using the Ethereum blockchain to implement a credential system. Once in place, this system will allow them to issue tamper-proof diploma certificates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-does-legitdoc-work\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_does_LegitDoc_work\"><\/span>How does LegitDoc work?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There is legit tech behind LegitDoc, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitdoc.com\/#lgt-tech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">as their website proudly claims<\/a>. The startup uses a patent-filed, proprietary algorithm built on Ethereum to issue and verify documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Certificate documents are first generated as PDFs by the issuing body.<\/li><li>Every PDF is assigned a unique \u2018fingerprint\u2019 by LegitDoc<\/li><li>For a batch of certificates, one condensed fingerprint is generated<\/li><li>This single fingerprint is uploaded on Ethereum Blockchain against the issuer\u2019s public key<\/li><li>A unique Ethereum-based Proof File is generated for each PDF.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Once this is done, the original PDF file and the corresponding proof file are compiled into a LegitDoc zip file.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These files can now be shared outwards, and compared on a verification portal to confirm their authenticity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-does-this-mean-for-india\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_does_this_mean_for_India\"><\/span>What does this mean for India?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s interesting to note that this partnership goes directly against the anti-crypto sentiment we\u2019d seen earlier in the year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an exclusive statement with <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/india-to-use-ethereum-blockchain-to-verify-diploma-certificates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Cointelegraph<\/a>, LegitDoc CEO Neil Martis said<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cWe have an active work order from the Government of Karnataka (Department of Information Technology and Biotechnology).
