About the Chromia platform

Launched in May 2019, the Chroma token (CHR) is the native token of the open-source public blockchain Chromia.

This blockchain is adapted from and is an upgrade to an earlier technology called ‘Postchain’, which is a standalone single layer blockchain. The Chromia is also an EVM compatible Layer-2 enhancement for Binance Smart Chain and Ethereum. It gives its users the ability to generate next-generation DApps by giving them the options of scalability, the ability to customize fee structures and the handling of data according to their requirements.

The architecture used by this blockchain is called relational blockchain, and a programming language called Rell. Each DApp on Chromia operates on its own sidechain, cemented in the main blockchain. This provides flexibility to DApp creators in their fee structures. Chromia hosts a variety of applications on its blockchain, using its chain as a decentralized storage layer. Some DApps currently using Chromia are land-based farming game My Neighbor Alice, government land registry initiative LAC PropertyChain, options trading platform Hedget.

Characteristics of the CHR token

The CHR is the native token within the Chromia ecosystem which is used by DApps to pay hosting fees, to compensate for the nodes they use. It is the native currency within the Chromia ecosystem, thus offering incentives and also ensuring that users have a stake in the Chroma ecosystem. It is also pegged to a Chroma ERC-20 token ensuring that there is some interoperability onto the Ethereum blockchain for holders of these Chroma ERC tokens.
